1. What is the contest theme?
The theme is “America’s Hometown Stories.” You’re invited to create a 2–3 minute video that captures a meaningful story, place, person, or tradition from your hometown that reflects the American spirit. This could include a local hero, a family tradition, a historical landmark, or a story from the past that still shapes your community.
2. Who is eligible to enter?
The contest is open to current U.S. high school students in Grades 11–12. You must submit your entry as an individual, and only one video per student is allowed.
3. Can I enter with a friend or group?
No. This is an individual submission contest. Collaborators can help behind the scenes (like filming or editing), but only one student can be listed as the official entrant.
4. What are the video requirements?
Your video must be:
- 2 to 3 minutes long
- In .MP4 or .MOV format
- At least 1080p resolution
- In English, or subtitled if in another language
- Original and made specifically for this contest
5. What information do I need to include with my submission?
Each entry must include:
- Your full name, grade, school, and email
- A 150–200 word summary describing the video’s story and inspiration
- A parent or guardian consent form (if you’re under 18)
- Consent forms for anyone featured in the video
6. Do I need fancy editing software?
No! Your story and message matter more than flashy effects. You can use free editing tools like iMovie, CapCut, or DaVinci Resolve, and we’ll even suggest video compression tools to help with uploads.
7. How will the videos be judged?
Videos will be evaluated based on:
- Storytelling
- Creativity
- Relevance to the theme
- Technical quality
- Emotional impact
- Judges may include educators, media professionals, historians, and civic leaders.
8. What prizes can I win?
Top national winners receive scholarships of $10,000, $5,000, and $2,500. Regional finalists may receive $2,500 or tech prizes (like microphones or editing software). Honorable mentions will earn certificates and social media shoutouts.
9. How will winners be notified?
Winners will be contacted by email and announced on the contest website and HelloNation’s social media on July 4, 2026.
10. When is the deadline to enter?
All submissions are due by June 1, 2026. Don’t wait until the last minute—give yourself time to edit, review, and gather all required forms!
